The payment method change window is launched by SASSA.

In order to allow successful applicants to choose a different payment mechanism for the unique COVID-19 SRD award, SASSA will once again make its system available to them. The window period is anticipated to run continuously from Monday, August 31, 2020, until Sunday, September 6, 2020. Beneficiaries may switch from getting benefits at the post office to receiving them via individual bank accounts during this period. Additionally, if they want, they may switch banks. During this period, approved grant recipients may modify their payment method by going to https://srd.sassa.gov.za. (srd.sassa.gov.za).

This change aims to solve difficulties some grant recipients encountered while attempting to use their special relief grant from the Post Office. Beneficiaries must be aware that they shouldn't visit the Post Office before getting an SMS alerting them that money is available. SMS alerts are used to control the amount of persons that visit the Post Office on a given day and to make sure there is enough money on hand.

"When selecting a bank account, double check that it is open and in your name (SASSA cannot pay one person into an account owned by another). If monies are transferred to a closed account, the payment process is delayed because SASSA has to wait for the money to be returned before transferring it to the Post Office for delivery, according to SASSA CEO Totsie Memela. Customers who change their contact information should make sure that it is accurately recorded to prevent unnecessary delays.

If deposited into a bank account, COVID-19 rewards will be received more quickly. As a result, those who are applying without a bank account are advised to get one. There are a lot of affordable, entry-level solutions available, some of which may be accessed online.

Customers who have recently been authorized by SASSA for a relief grant and who have received an SMS requesting that they upload and verify their bank information may do it whenever they like, without having to wait for an approximate window of time. Payments may be made more quickly the earlier the information is submitted.

The agency is also happy to report that clients who selected cash transfers as their preferred mode of payment for the COVID-19 SRD special financing will actually receive payment via their selected channels in August 2020. To receive payments, users must make sure that the cellphone number they provide SASSA is registered in their own name and not the name of a family or a neighbor. For payments to be made using the mobile phone, the RICA procedure must be completed.

Citizens whose information is not updated within this window period or whose bank information is wrong will receive payments by mail for the following months.
